Prime Minister meets chiefs of armed forces

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met the senior most commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force in New Delhi on Tuesday, to spell out his government's plans for and expectations from the three armed forces.

The PM's customary annual address to chiefs comes in the backdrop of the deteriorating security scenario in the sub-continent - especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Manmohan Singh outlined India's immediate and medium-term defence policy with respect to China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the internal security challenge posed by left wing extremism. He reassured the forces that there will be no compromise on India's defence preparedness.

The PM's speech will be keenly followed by the commanders responsible for implementing India's defence policy.
