Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to the first President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, by laying a wreath at his mausoleum.
"Homage to a great son of Africa, a friend of India. PM lays wreath at Mausoleum of Jomo Kenyatta, 1st Prez of Kenya," tweeted Vikas Swarup, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
PMO India tweeted: "Remembering a towering personality of Africa & 1st President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta. PM pays his tributes."
Earlier, PM Modi was given a ceremonial welcome in capital city Nairobi.
PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta later in the day.
PM Modi arrived in Kenya from Tanzania on Saturday on the fourth and final leg of his four-nation African tour.
Mr Kenyatta was the first President of Kenya and a politician. He was the leader of Kenya from independence in 1963 till his death in 1978, serving first as Prime Minister (1963-64) and then as President (1964-78).
