Kolkata: Apprised about various issues faced by West Bengal, like rising cases of crime against women, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday assured action including sending a National Commission for Women (NCW) team to probe reported cases, the state Congress on Sunday said.
A team of Congress leaders, led by state chief Pradip Bhattacharya, met Manmohan Singh who was in the city to participate in the bicentenary celebrations of the Indian Museum in Kolkata.
"We appraised him (Manmohan Singh) about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, including repeated instances of attacks on women. We also told him about how the state government has either remained a mute spectator or preferred to play to the galleries," Bhattacharya told media after the meeting at Raj Bhavan.
"We informed him how the state government has refused to send reports which have been sought by the NCW. The prime minister has assured us of sending a NCW team," said Bhattacharya.
