The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Thursday discussed with the ministries concerned the ways to liberalise the agriculture sector from various restrictions.
The meeting was chaired by Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary in PMO. The secretaries from agriculture, consumer affairs and other related ministries were present. According to sources, the meeting took stock of the current controls and regulatory situation in the agriculture sector and also deliberated on how to liberalise it.
A presentation was also made on the subject by the ministries concerned, they added. Agriculture is a state subject and the whole regulatory structure is being reviewed with an aim to boost the sectoral growth and curb food inflation.
