Priority will be to ensure education to every child: Sibal
New Delhi:

After being named as Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal on Thursday night said his priority will include continuing with the existing policies and programme but with a new approach and mindset.

"There will be continuity in the policies and programme with a new approach and mindset," the new HRD minister told reporters, soon after announcement of the portfolios.

Thanking party President Sonia Gandhi for giving him the ministry and a such big responsibility, Sibal said it offered great challenges and opportunity as it touches the life of every youth and every family.

"This ministry offers great opportunity and challenges due to its vast expanse. It touches the life of every child, youth, every family," the MP from Chandni Chowk in Delhi said.

Sibal rubbished reports that he wanted the Law Ministry. He said two of his sons are in legal practice and had he been a Law minister, there could be allegations at times.

He steered clear of questions regarding alleged politicisation of the HRD ministry during previous incumbent Arjun Singh's tenure. "We have respect for Arjun Singh ji," Sibal simply said.

Listing his priority, Sibal said every child has a right to education.

"Every child should get an opportunity to study irrespective of the economic status. We will take steps to ensure every child gets an opportunity to study," he added.
