Patna: A school teacher was among the eight people booked and a probe was ordered after Mahadalit childrens complained of caste discrimination in a government-run school by some teachers in Bihar's Kaimur district, police said today.

Kaimur Superintendent of Police Sunil Naik ordered the probe after these students complained against certain school teachers from the so-called upper castes.

"I have taken the complaint of caste discrimination seriously and ordered a probe into it," Superintendent Naik said.

He said a case was lodged against Prahlad Singh, a teacher, and seven others on the basis of statements made by the Mahadalit students.

The students told police that certain teachers forced them to stand in the last queue during prayers and called them by their caste names in Hindi to humiliate and embarrass them.

"Teachers also discriminate with them during serving of the midday meals and in classrooms too," a local police official said.
