New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the BJP's poll campaign for Delhi elections by promising the national capital with 24-hours supply of electricity.
"We will rid Delhi of generators... I promise you with 24 hours supply of electricity," the PM said at a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
He also said the government will soon allow people to choose their electricity provider. "Citizens of Delhi will soon have the option to choose their electricity provider just like mobile phone providers," the PM added.
He said the competition would also bring down tariffs, as had happened in the telecom sector.
The prime minister will be the face of the BJP's campaign in the city and the party feels the rally will help it build a momentum for the election.
The rally was also attended by top leaders of the BJP including the chief ministers of Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, where the party captured power in recent elections.
The BJP has been out of power in Delhi for the past 16 years. Its Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay said that the party was confident of winning the polls with a clear majority this time with the help of PM Modi's charisma.
