Patna: Bihar lawmaker Gopal Mandal, a member of the ruling Janata Dal-United, got suspended by his party for some controversial remarks. The lawmaker had allegedly said he would now resort to "politics of murder" to retaliate against his political rivals.
"Main ab hatya ki rajniti hi karunga aur hatya karwaunga (I will practice politics of murder and order murders)," the lawmaker from Bihar's Gopalpur had allegedly said at a function on Tuesday. "Pehle bhi hatya karta tha, ab bhi karoonga (I used to commit murders in the past, now I will do so again)."
The lawmaker, who is already facing a number of criminal cases, also told his audience that he would provide security to all, including those who had not voted for him. "I have plenty of arms and ammunition," he added.
He questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's decision to ban country-made liquor in the state from April 1, calling it a "wrong decision". If liquor is banned, there was "ganja" and "bhang" for the people to enjoy, he said.
The JD(U), which had already distanced itself, calling his remarks condemnable, took action against Mr Mandal this evening. He was suspended from the party.
The Nitish Kumar government has lately come under BJP fire after a number of high-profile crimes were committed in the state. The police claims the figures for murder and abduction was the lowest in 2015 compared to the last 4 years.
Action was also taken against Rana Gangeshwar Singh, who triggered a controversy saying singing the national anthem is unnecessary.
"Bihar Geet" the state's new anthem, should be made compulsory for all Biharis, the member of the legislative council had said. He too, was suspended from the party.
