Congress workers staged a protest against the state government and later courted arrested in Jammu today.
Jammu:
Accusing the Peoples Democratic Party-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir of having failed to address the problems of the people, the state unit of Congress today held a protest march as they attempted to surround the Civil Secretariat here.
Led by senior Congress leaders, including the state Congress Chief GA Mir and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, a large number of Congress workers today gathered at Hari Singh Park and marched towards the civil secretariat.
However, their attempt to reach the civil secretariat was foiled by a large contingent of state police that was deployed near the Jammu Bus Stand.
They staged a protest and later courted arrested.
"Since they (BJP-PDP) joined hands, the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have increased manifolds. While the BJP cheated people of Jammu, the people of Kashmir were cheated by the PDP," Mr Mir said.
He said that all the promises made to the people prior to the Assembly elections of 2014 remained unfulfilled.
"One year has passed but they have failed to fulfil any of the promises, be it the problems faced by the border residents, be it the problems faced by the farmers, be it the problems of flood victims, be it the problems of refugees and Kashmiri Pandits, this government has done nothing to address those problems," Mr Mir added.
Commenting on the Bihar elections in which the Grand Alliance led by Nitish Kumar defeated the NDA, Mr Mir said that the voters of Bihar need to be appreciated for rejecting the "communal agenda" of BJP.
"The results of Bihar elections have started the downfall of communal forces led by Narendra Modi, the voters in Bihar have shown tremendous maturity and rejected the hollow slogans of BJP," Mr Mir said.
