Protester's blog: It is time for the government to come to us
New Delhi: Upamanyu Raju, 21, runs an NGO for tiger conservation in Delhi. He was among the protesters at Jantar Mantar today and at India Gate yesterday. This is his blog (as told to ndtv.com's Amit Chaturvedi):

"First of all, I want to say that ours is not a political agitation. We have no leader; it's a common man's protest. We haven't thought of any meetings at all with any of the leaders, we just want to be apolitical.

I feel that it is time for the government to come to us, not just with words but with action. This time, no more verbal assurance. We will go silent when we will see action. And action not just for this girl but for all residents of the city, because a lot of people feel unsafe here.

This movement has galvanized me and I'm here at Jantar Mantar as a volunteer to control the crowd. There were 15-20 people when I reached here in the morning but now the crowd has soared up. We are urging everyone here to be patient and not to resort to violence so that nothing like yesterday is repeated.

I was there when protests were taking place at India Gate yesterday. Police lathicharged and I was injured. It was very bad. And all this happened because some people with vested interest infiltrated our movement. I want to say to all those people: don't put your guns on our shoulders. Because the real cause is lost then.

But now, people have understood. The situation has changed today. And I'm seeing some positive response."
