The protesters in Jammu had torched several buses and motorcycles.

Jammu: A massive protest broke out in Jammu on Tuesday evening, with a mob setting buses on fire and throwing stones at the police.

Some motorcycles were also torched and many shops were vandalised in the Janipur area of Jammu city.

As the police fired tear gas shells to control the crowd, the protesters set two vehicles on fire inside the police station premises.

The protest, the police said, was over an alleged desecration of a place of worship earlier in the day by a man, who they claimed is mentally disturbed. He has been arrested.

Senior police officers are at the spot, trying to control the situation.
