Srinagar: Massive protests erupted in North Kashmir's Nadihal area of Baramulla district after a 22-year-old man was killed in firing by security forces during clashes this afternoon.
Waseem Ahmad, a resident of Nadihal, was killed in security forces firing, police said.
Locals say after those injured in the clashes were shifted to Baramulla district hospital, Waseem was declared brought dead.
Police say security forces opened fire when a group of protesters threw stones at their vehicles in Nadihal on the Baramulla-Handwara road.
With this, the number of civilian deaths in firing by security forces and clashes has risen to 87 in the last two and half months of unrest in Kashmir. The clashes broke out in July after Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani was killed by security forces.
More than eight thousand people have been injured in the violent protests that have followed.
According to hospital records, over 800 people have injuries in their eyes due to pellet gun firing. Most of them may lose their eyesight partially or permanently.
On Friday, there were reports of protests and clashes from several other areas of the valley as well, injuring dozens more.
Kashmir has been in a lockdown for the last 76 days due to an uninterrupted strike call by separatist groups and curbs imposed by the security forces.
