Srinagar: There were massive protests outside Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani's residence in Srinagar this morning after the police refused to allow his party, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat,to hold a seminar.

Today is the raising day of Mr Geelani's party and he was to address the seminar at his residence-cum-office in Hyderpora, where he has been under house arrest for the last four months.

Mr Geelani's supporters - a few hundred in numbers - clashed with the police, following which the cops had to use batons, water cannons and tear gas on the protesters.

Four people were reportedly injured in the protests.

The protests come a day after the National Security Adviser level talks between India and Pakistan were called off.

Mr Geelani, 85, was among the Kashmiri separatists invited by Pakistan to meet its NSA, Sartaj Aziz, in Delhi. To India, this was unacceptable.
