Chhattisgarh eduction minister Kedar Kashyap and the admit card of his wife Shanti.
Jagdalpur:
A fake candidate allegedly sat for university exams today as proxy for senior BJP leader and Chhattisgarh education minister Kedar Kashyap's wife Shanti Kashyap, sources told NDTV.
Mrs Kashyap is a final year post-graduate student of English at the Sunderlal Sharma Open University in Jagdalpur.
Centre in-charge Hemrao Kharge told NDTV that the woman who came to take the exams in her stead was later identified as Kiran Maurya, the minister's sister-in-law and a resident of Bhanpuri district.
She had appeared at the exam hall at 10 am for the English Language Studies paper, Mr Kharge said. When the students noticed the impersonation and raised a ruckus, the police was called in and she was escorted out of the premises, he said.
Mr Kharge, however, claimed he did not know the candidate.
The opposition Congress was quick to point fingers at the minister. "Mr Kashyap takes outsourcing so seriously that his wife's exam paper was outsourced as well," said Leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo.
The minister was not available for comments.
The incident comes as a controversy rages in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh over the Vyapam scam -- a huge admission and recruitment racket that allegedly involves top bureaucrats and politicians.
