Pune: Death, his 'surprise gift' to her

Pune: For a girl, who had vowed to live for the rest of her life with a man, this came as a shock. Nineteen-tear-old Pune resident Dhanshri received imminent death as a 'surprise gift' by her husband for their marriage anniversary.

Her 20-year-old stock broker husband, Kishore Kumbhar, took Dhanshri to a late night movie as part of her marriage anniversary celebrations. Then, before returning home at around 1.30 in the night, he took her for a stroll along a riverside. Kishore told his wife to close her eyes so that he could present a surprise gift. The moment she obliged, Kishore pushed her into the river and thinking that she has drowned, escaped from the place. But Dhanashri held on to life.

"It was not deep. I held on to something the whole night and shouted for help, but it was only in the morning that some people saw me and rescued me," recalls Dhanashri.

Dhanashri went and filed a complaint with the police who have arrested Kishore.

"We have file a case of attempt to murder against Kishore," says Digamber Jadhav, PSI, Sangvi police station.

Kishore and Dhanshri who lived in opposite houses in Pimpri area in Pune, had married last year on December 20, after a three-year affair. But a few months after marriage, Kishore started doubting her character.

The Pune resident couldn't believe she is still alive.
