Pune: 25-year-old K Rasila Raju, a techie working with Infosys in Pune, was in office on Sunday, her day off, for a special project. At night, she would be found murdered in a conference room, strangled by a computer cable.

CCTV footage has led the police to believe that in the well-protected building in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi, a security guard is the main suspect.

Ms Raju had allegedly fought with the guard, Bhabhen Saikia, earlier on Sunday and had threatened to complain against him.

Saikia, who is from Assam, was tracked down in Mumbai this morning.

Ms Raju, a systems engineer from Kerala, had been constantly in touch with two teammates who were online with her from the Bengaluru office. In the evening, her supervisor in Bengaluru tried to call her but didn't get a response. Around 9 pm, a guard found her lying on the floor next to her chair in the ninth floor conference room.

The police, called in by Infosys, say there were signs that she had also been struck hard on her face.

"On the basis of the CCTV footage from the company premises and other clues, we zeroed in on the security guard," said police officer Arun Waikar.

Infosys expressed shock and said it is providing all possible help to the police.

"We are saddened and shocked at this unfortunate incident and the loss of our colleague. Our prayers and sympathies are with our employee's family and friends. We are focused on assisting the police with their investigation and providing all possible support to her family," the IT major said in a statement.

Alarmed by recent incidents, the Pune police are planning to meet with IT companies and discuss women's safety.

This is the second murder in Pune in two months. In December, 23-year-old Antara Das, an employee of Capgemini, was chased and stabbed to death barely half a km from her office. Her former colleague and friend was arrested for the murder.
