Chandigarh: A special session of the Punjab Assembly has been convened tomorrow in the wake of the Supreme Court declaring as "unconstitutional" the 2004 law enacted by the state government to terminate the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal water sharing agreement with neighbouring states.
Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will come out with a strategy that will suit them better in all legal terms, a party spokesperson said in Chandigarh here today.
He said the government is fine-tuning its next legal, legislative and political moves.
However, Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal told PTI that the resignations of Congress MLAs were "under consideration".
"We have officially not received any communication about the session being convened," he said.
On Monday, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh wanted an assurance from the government that the new legislation will be approved by the governor and not made a mockery.
In a related development in neighbouring state, Haryana Government has convened a meeting of all political parties under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on the issue of Sutlej-Yamuna-Link Canal.
