Punjab outraged over kidnapped 5-year-old's death
Chandigarh: The streets of Burail in Chandigarh witnessed scenes similar to that of Srinagar when angry residents blocked the roads and pelted stones. They were apparently miffed at the failure of police to crack the kidnap and murder of five-year-old Khushpreet.

Khushpreet was kidnapped from Burail two weeks ago and his body was found in Mohali on Wednesday.

"His death is a failure of the Chandigarh police," said one of the protesters.

"We recovered a body that was identified by the family of Khushpreet. We are on the case. We will get the culprit soon," said H S Doon, Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh.

The last Khushpreet's parents saw him was on December 21 when he left for school. Two days later, they received a ransom call for Rs 10 lakh which they negotiated down to Rs 4 lakh.

The police laid a trap with the money but the abductors got away with the ransom.

The police could find no further clues till Wednesday when the body was found abandoned on a main road.

Now as public outrage creates additional pressure, the days ahead will be tough for the police.
