Chandigarh:
A senior police officer in Punjab has been suspended for allegedly misusing junior cops for his personal work.
SK Asthana, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Vigilance had allegedly employed 31 personnel from the Punjab Police and Home Guards department at his official residence, who were engaged in doing household work for him.
The state government, while ordering for placing Mr Asthana under suspension with immediate effect, has also ordered for an inquiry into the incident.
Appropriate departmental action shall also be taken against those units which provided the unauthorised manpower to IGP Asthana.
The action has been taken on the directive of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who also holds the Home portfolio.
Earlier, Mr Asthana was replaced as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Patiala range by the Election Commission before the Punjab assembly polls.
