Ludhiana: If AAP comes to power, special priority will be given to developing Punjab as the 'milk state' by improving dairy farming as a viable alternative under agriculture diversification programme, the party's manifesto team head Kanwar Sandhu said on Thursday.

He said this while addressing dairy farmers at Punjab Dialogue programme of AAP organised by Punjab Progressive Farmers Association (PDFA) in Ludhiana.

"Earlier Punjab was known as the land of milk and butter. But with the anti-farmers policies of successive governments, it now stands nowhere as compared to the per capita production of milk producing countries," Mr Sandhu alleged.

After going through suggestions by dairy farmers in the programme, concrete solutions will be incorporated in AAP's election manifesto for Punjab Assembly polls slated for next year, he said.

Mr Sandhu said small and marginal farmers will be given facilities to develop dairy farming which has the maximum potential of self-employment.

Many PDFA members alleged that they had developed dairy farming in Punjab on commercial lines since 2002 but during the last 4-5 years, the state government has created a number of "hurdles" in the development of this venture and "turned it non-profitable".

He alleged that the Mr Badal government did not bother to take any concrete step to redress the genuine problems of farmers and news of farmer suicides are reported daily.

Assuring that AAP will find solution to all problems faced by farmers and suicides will definitely come to an end in the state, Mr Sandhu claimed that within one month of coming to power, the party will completely root out corruption from governance.

State president of AAP's Kisan and Labour Wing, Capt G S Kang said all suggestions coming from farmers were being minutely studied and the solutions will be presented in the manifesto.
