Bhubaneswar:
Former bureaucrat Rabinarayan Senapati today assumed charge as the new State Election Commissioner of Odisha.
Mr Senapati, who retired as the Development Commissioner (DC) of the state in 2012, was appointed as the first commissioner of the State Cooperation Election Commission, Odisha.
"I will try to ensure free and fare polls in the state. Besides, steps will be taken to increase voting percentage in panchayat and other elections", Mr Senapati said after taking charge as the State Election Commissioner.
Mr Senapati succeeds Ajit Tripathy as the State Election Commissioner.
