Radhika Tanwar Murder case: Main suspect arrested

New Delhi: The main suspect in the Radhika Tanwar murder case has been arrested from Mumbai. Twenty-year-old Radhika was shot outside her college in South Delhi on Tuesday.

On Friday, the Delhi Police had identified the alleged killer as Vijay alias Ram Singh, a "mentally unstable" man who might have been involved in such an incident before.

According to police, Vijay has confessed his crime, saying he knew Radhika's route to college, and was waiting near the bridge on March 8, to kill her.

Police claim he had followed Radhika several times before, but his immediate provocation came three days before the crime, when he tried to speak to Radhika at the same foot over bridge, where he later shot her.

"On March 5, he had met her at the same bridge, but she had snubbed him when he tried to talk to her," said B K Gupta, Commissioner, Delhi Police.

According to the cops, Vijay bought a gun from Gurgaon, and chose to shoot her on the foot over bridge where the ramp ended, so as to make a speedy exit from the crime scene. He even ran 500 metres with the gun in his hand, without anyone trying to catch him.

Vijay used to work at a knitting unit near Radhika's house, and reportedly teased and followed girls in the area - he was beaten up twice for this behaviour.

He shifted to Mumbai three years back, but would keep returning to Delhi and try and follow Radhika each time.

Radhika's family is relieved that the police have caught the killer, but say they still do not believe in the stalker theory.

"We first want to see him and get him verified by her friends and then we will be convinced," said Rajinder Singh, Radhika's father.

Radhika was shot on Tuesday morning as she was crossing a pedestrian bridge outside Ram Lal Anand College in South Delhi's Dhaula Kuan. For 10 minutes, not one passerby volunteered to take her to hospital.
