Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha delivered a sharp comeback today in response to a BJP tweet that mocked a photo of him being attacked by a crow outside Parliament. The BJP shared the image with a famous Hindi phrase as its caption: "Jhooth bole kauwa kaate (if you lie a crow will peck on you)".
The BJP tweeted a collage of three photos that show Raghav Chadha talking on the phone outside Parliament. A crow is seen in each photo, in various stages of swooping down to peck on the AAP leader's head, prompting him to duck.
The BJP did not specify whether the photo was taken during the ongoing monsoon session.
As the tweet started gaining traction, Raghav Chadha responded to it with a reference to the epic Ramayana.
"Ramchandra keh gaye siya se aisa Kaljug aayega, hans chugega daana dunka kauwa moti khayega (Lord Ram told Sita that the age of darkness will bring such a calamity upon humanity that a swan will eat grains and a crow will feast on pearls)," he said in his tweet.
The exchange comes at a time when several opposition parties have put in notices in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, seeking a discussion on the Manipur clashes after a viral video of women paraded naked by a mob emerged last week, triggering massive outrage nationwide.
Mr Chadha, along with Congress' Ranjeet Ranjan and Rajeev Shukla, have called for a discussion in Rajya Sabha.
The opposition today also put in notice for a no-confidence motion in Parliament against the BJP-led government at the Centre, which has been accepted by Speaker Om Birla. The speaker is yet to announce a date for the vote.
