New Delhi: Continuing his tirade against Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan, BJP's Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said Mr Rajan has been acting as a "Congress agent" ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in May 2014.
Mr Swamy's remarks came after senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that he was saddened by the way an "upright" RBI Governor was being targetted by BJP parliamentarians.
"I am saddened by the way the BJP-led government treated an upright RBI Governor like Raghuram Rajan," Mr Azad told media in New Delhi.
Mr Rajan has announced he would not want a second term after his current tenure as the RBI Governor ends in September.
Reacting to Mr Azad's remarks, Mr Swamy told the media in New Delhi that such remarks only substantiated his suspicion that Mr Rajan acted as a Congress agent.
"This only proves what I have always suspected... that he (Mr Rajan) worked as a Congress agent," Ms Swamy said.
The BJP leader accused Mr Rajan of "sabotaging the country's economy by trying to put all small, medium industries out of business".
Mr Swamy has been bitterly criticising Mr Rajan for some time now, accusing the RBI Governor of derailing the Indian economy by keeping the lending rates high.
