New Delhi: Parents of 23-year-old Jyoti Singh, who was gang-raped and tortured by six men on the night of December 16, 2012 in Delhi, today met with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and were assured of his support for the passing of the Juvenile Justice Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
After the meeting, Jyoti's mother Asha Devi said she had been assured by Mr Gandhi that his party would support the bill.
Earlier, Asha Devi and Badri Singh had also met Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi at his residence.
"The bill should be passed today. I have been assured that it will be passed today. Our struggle is to get this bill passed," Asha Devi said, who is attending the ongoing debate on the Bill in the Upper House.
The amendments to Juvenile Justice Act will allow children between 16-18 years to be tried as adults in cases of heinous crimes. The Bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is being discussed in the Upper House amid differing stands of party lawmakers.
