Rahul Gandhi chairs Congress' manifesto meet
New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today chaired a meeting of the Congress' manifesto committee to start work on preparing the Congress Manifesto for the 2014 elections.

Sources say senior leaders like Digvijaya Singh, P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid, Janardhan Dwivedi among others attended the meeting. Recently appointed chief of the Congress Minority Cell Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed and Mohan Gopal, a scholar at the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation too attended the meeting.

This evening's meeting is the second meeting and comes after Rahul Gandhi launched a website (www.incmanifesto.in) at a public rally in Alwar last week, inviting people to give their suggestions as to what they want to see in the Congress manifesto.

Right now, sources say, different people have been asked to look at different themes. Mr Chidambaram will look at economy and finance while Mr Ramesh will look at issues relating to health, agriculture and rural development.

Foreign Affairs and national security are issues that Salman Khurshid is going to look at. Mohan Gopal, who is associated with the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, will be looking at issues related to governance.

Sources say the Congress is likely to have half a dozen public launches for its website and based on suggestions it receives, by the end of next month, the party will set up a manifesto committee to work on the final document.
