New Delhi: Reacting to charges of political vendetta in the National Herald case, the BJP hit out at the Congress brass on a day its top leaders including chief Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi are appearing in court in the case.
"Rahul Gandhi (is an) expert in lying. If he has a problem with the High Court, he can go to the Supreme Court," Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ahead of the hearing. On December 9, Mr Gandhi had said the case was "100 per cent political vendetta coming out of the prime minister's office."
BJP leader and the complainant in the case, Subramanian Swamy said he had filed the case "as a private citizen." Mr Swamy's complaint in 2012 accuses the Gandhis, two other Congress leaders - treasurer Motilal Vora and general secretary Oscar Fernandes, and Gandhi family associates Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey - of trying to illegally acquire real estate worth crores of rupees.
Criticising the Congress for protests ahead of the hearing, Mr Swamy said, "This will send the message that all people are not equal in this country...This shows that they are losing the case, otherwise they should go normally."
"We are in government with peoples' mandate," Mr Prasad said.
