Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad seat also fell vacant after his disqualification

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day after he was disqualified from parliament. His disqualification came following his conviction and jail sentence in a defamation case stemming from a 2019 remark implying PM Modi was a criminal. Mr Gandhi's Wayanad seat has also fell vacant after his disqualification. He has been granted bail and his sentence suspended for 30 days to let him appeal his conviction.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday claimed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the OBC community and Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar and should be "punished".

Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs on Saturday staged a silent protest outside Maharashtra Assembly against the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament. The MLAs, covering their mouths with black bands, sat on the steps of the Assembly holding posters.
