New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has tweeted that he is traveling to Europe and has offered New Year wishes in advance. This is the first time that the Congress vice president has tweeted about flying abroad.
The 45-year-old had been lacerated by critics over his 56-day sabbatical earlier this year.
The BJP repeatedly attacked him over his vacation in an undisclosed destination and his absence from a significant part of the budget session of Parliament. The party used it to question Mr Gandhi's dedication to politics.
It was also the ruling party's comeback every time Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his foreign visits.
In September, the Congress leader's visit to Aspen for a conference was derided by the BJP, which accused him of holidaying in the US.
The BJP said Mr Gandhi had been sent by his party on "forced vacation" to keep him out of Bihar as allies like Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar did not want him in the picture in the campaign for the state elections.
