Chennai:
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today visited DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who is admitted in a hospital in Chennai.
"I wanted to personally wish him a speedy recovery, happy to see that he is doing well," Mr Gandhi said after meeting Mr Karunanidhi.
93-year-old Karunanidhi had a tracheostomy in Chennai's Kauvery Hospital yesterday where he was admitted on Thursday night after he faced difficulties in breathing due to a throat and lung infection.
Mr Karunanidhi was re-admitted just a week after spending a week in hospital for a drug-induced allergy. Doctors had said he was there for nutrition and hydrational support. He was allowed to go home a week later.
The drug-induced allergy had kept the former Chief Minister out of public life for more than a month.
The party had asked its supporters not to visit the veteran leader in view of the medical advice. Later, actor Rajinikanth and noted Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu had visited the leader and inquired about his health.
From his hospital bed, Mr Karunanidhi had sent in his condolences for former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who died on December 5. "Although she might have died at a young age (68), there is no doubt that her fame will remain forever," he had said.
Due to the veteran leader's hospitalisation, the DMK has postponed its General Council meeting which was slated for December 20. A new date will be announced later.
