New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today made an aerial survey of quake-hit North Sikkim. He also visited a hospital in Gangtok.
114 people have died in the earthquake which struck on Sunday evening.
Accompanied by Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling and Union Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh, Mr Gandhi surveyed from a helicopter north district of Sikkim which is the worst-affected - 37 people have died here.
After reaching Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri two hours behind schedule due to inclement weather, Mr Gandhi took a chopper and landed at the army helipad in Libing near here.
The Congress leader then visited Lumsey, a residential pocket near here, which was also visited by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday.
Gandhi also visited the Central Referral Hospital, Manipal, and interacted with the injured.
"We will support the government in all possible ways", said the young Congress leader.
After the aerial survey, he left for Meghalaya.
