Terming as "baseless" Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's accusation against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the context of attacks on Christians in Orissa's Kandhmal district and post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, the saffron party alleged that the charges were levelled to spark communal tension.
"The statement is not only baseless but is made deliberately to flare up communal tension. The Election Commission should take suo motu cognizance of these communal and instigating remarks as it violates the code of conduct," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi.
He said if the poll panel did not take up the matter, BJP would file a complaint with them.
The BJP MP said this statement amounted to "hate-speech" and was made with the intention of polarising the votes. "Rahul Gandhi wants votes on communal lines," Javadekar alleged.
He accused Congress of practising "coalition adharma" by ditching allies.
"Rahul Gandhi's press conference yesterday was a declaration of war on its own allies. Congress has shown utter contempt for its present allies like TMC, DMK and NCP and its erstwhile partners like SP, RJD, and LJP," he said.
Javadekar said for the Gandhi family it was a "dynastic trait" of practising the reverse of what they preach.
"Indira Gandhi created Illegal Migration (Detection by Tribunal) Act but ended up protecting infiltrators. Rajiv Gandhi sermonised clean politics but ended up with Bofors scandal and now the crown prince wants to democratise Congress but will only end up by tightening a dynastic hold," he said.
