Mumbai:
Sources tell NDTV that Rahul Gandhi's security feel his last-minute decision to ride two local trains in Mumbai was risky, and made them "very anxious."
Gandhi was in Mumbai for a three-hour stop and was meant to commute between two scheduled meetings by helicopter.
Instead, after meeting students at Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle, Gandhi boarded a train at Andheri, got off at Dadar, then took another train to Ghapotkar where he visited a Dalit slum.
Security sources say that Gandhi's Special Protection Guards (SPG) are usually briefed two days in advance about every detail of his movements.
Mumbai's senior-most policemen were on the streets today, coordinating Gandhi's visit. More than 60 Shiv Sainiks were taken into custody across in the city.
Gandhi's unscheduled train journeys also sent the Railway Police into a tizzy, especially because it has received recently been alerted to a terror threat against suburban railway lines.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) last week received specific inputs about possible terror attacks on February 2 at three Central Railway stations - CST, Dadar and Kurla - following which thorough searches were conducted.
After Gandhi decided to ride two local trains, bomb detection and disposal squads, and sniffer dogs were immediately pressed into service at Andheri, Vile Parle, Dadar and Ghatkopar railway stations and thorough checking was conducted at these stations, sources added.
