Madhu Bansal, the wife of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, is at Parliament House to listen to her husband make his first Rail Budget speech and would like him to announce a helpline for women to call when in distress.
Mrs Bansal, who said she travels on trains mostly between Delhi and Chandigarh, which is also her husband's Lok Sabha constituency said she found the Shatabdi service between the two cities "very good."
The minister's son, Manish Bansal, would like his father to announce high speed trains to improve intercity connectivity. He too stressed on safety for women.
Mr Bansal is the first Congressman in 17 years to be Railway Minister. He is tasked today with achieving a critical balance between generating revenue for the Railways, which faces a likely Rs 25000 crore loss this year, and keep people happy a year before general elections.
