New Delhi: Passengers trying to book train tickets online will find the process less infuriating soon, said Railways Minister Sadananda Gowda. (Rail Budget Highlights)
He said an overhaul of e-ticketing systems will support the processing of 7,200 tickets every minute as compared to the current 2,000 tickets per minute. (Rail Budget 2014: What's In it For You?)
The minister offered the assurance while presenting the Railway Budget for 2014-15 in Parliament. (Budget-o-Meter: Rate Modi Government's First Rail Budget )
"We will allow 120,000 users to simultaneously book online", he claimed after he began his budget presentation by quoting the philosophy of Kautilya about the happiness of the ruler lying "in the happiness of the people." Kautilya or Chanakya was the main political advisor to Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya empire.
The minister also said that passengers will be able to go online to book retiring rooms at stations where they can rest.
