New Delhi:
An industrialist, who is accused in the Rs 10 crore bribery case, which also involves Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew, was arrested after he surrendered at the Patiala House court in Delhi.
Ajay Garg, the accused, is reportedly a close aide of Mr Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla, who was arrested last week for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90 lakh to help a senior railway official land a plum post in the Railway Board.
Sources in the CBI say Mr Garg's name figures in the original FIR in the case. Phone conversations intercepted by them establish Mr Garg talking about the exchange of money in the case, the sources add.
The BJP has been demanding the resignation of the Railway Minister over the bribery scam. The opposition, led by the BJP, has threatened of continued disruptions in Parliament if Mr Bansal is not sacked. On his part, the minister insists that he is innocent, having told senior-most members of the Congress, including the Prime Minister, that he has no business links with his nephew, who has been the genesis of this bribery scandal.
Since yesterday, there have been massive protests in Delhi and Chandigarh, by BJP activists, demanding the ouster of Mr Bansal.
