Railways try to help stranded passengers in Bengal

Kolkata: Food stalls were kept open at major railway stations and essentials were supplied by the Eastern Railway (ER) on trains stranded due to the Bharat bandh on Monday.

Supervisors, inspectors and officers were deployed in advance at major stations to assist passengers of detained trains, ER officials said.

"Arrangements have been made to supply water and power in stranded trains," they said, adding, medical booths were opened at the old and new complexes of the Howrah station with

Railway doctors and para-medics on duty. CPM supporters distributed food and drinking water to passengers in stranded trains at Agarpara railway station in North 24 Parganas.
