New Delhi:
With an aim to make rail premises clean and hygienic, Railways has begun a two-week long massive cleanliness drive at all important stations and in trains across the country.
The objective of this drive is to make a visible impact in passenger areas on cleanliness, according to Chairman Railway Board (CRB) Arunendra Kumar, who had written a letter to all
zonal railways to take up the campaign in the right earnest.
The drive, which began on June 7 and will conclude on June 21, includes cleanliness of platforms, toilets, waiting and retiring rooms and other areas involving passenger movement.
According to the CRB directive, circulating areas will be cleaned, unclaimed vehicles will be towed and pre-paid taxi areas will also be made proper.
Mr Kumar has directed authorities to ensure white-washing of stations, including the concourse, covering of water booths and drains at stations especially in passenger areas and
check for any water leakage in trains or station premises.
The CRB has also asked Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to check one station everyday for the next two weeks and Assistant General Managers (AGMs) of the concerned Zonal
Railways will also inspect the stations for cleanliness.
Seeking daily progress report in this regard from all zones on regular basis through email, CRB has asked all GMs to monitor and supervise this cleanliness drive and undertake
periodic inspections themselves.
