Rains Lash Himachal Pradesh, Temperature in Key Areas Below 20 Degrees

Shimla: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh continued to receive heavy rains today leaving low-lying areas inundated even as one person was washed away in an overflowing rivulet in Una district.

Heavy rains lashed parts of Una, Kangra and Hamirpur districts disrupting normal life.

Meanwhile, the flood water receded in Dharampur area, where flash flood had claimed four lives yesterday but the bodies of two persons buried under debris are yet to be extricated. There was also no trace of two mission persons, feared to have been washed away.

A migrant from Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh, working in a factory at Amb, was swept away by strong current of a swollen 'khud' where he had gone to ease himself. His body is yet to be recovered.

Sky remained heavily overcast in the mid and higher hills, causing marginal rise in maximum temperatures as monsoons remained active in the state.

The local Meteorological Department office has warned of very heavy rains at isolated places in mid hills tomorrow and rains and thundershowers at many places in lower, mid and higher hills over next six days upto August 15.

Bangana was wettest in the region with 150 mm rains while Amb and Una received 123 mm and 113 mm rains, followed by Mehre and Gaggal recorded 85 and 73 mm rains, Bhoranj 60 mm, Baijnath and Bilaspur 40 mm, Bijahi 35 mm, Sundernagar 33 mm, Kotkhai 30 mm, Jhanjheli 24 mm, Mandi and Chelsea 19 mm, Dehra Gopipur 18 mm, Sarahan, Dharamshala and Chail 16 mm and  Shimla and Kumarsain 15 mm.

Bhunter was hottest during the day with maximum temperature at 30 degrees celsius while Sundernagar recorded a high of 28.6 degree, followed by Una 27.6 degree, Solan 27.4 degree Nahan 26.2 degree, Dharamshala 24.4 degree, Kalpa 24.2 degree and Shimla 22.4 degree.

There was no significant change in the minimum temperatures and Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district was the coldest at night with 14.8 degree while the key tourist destinations of Dharamshala, Manali, Dalhousie and Shimla recorded a low of 15 degree, 16.2 degree, 16.4 degree and 17.2 degree respectively.
