Raj Thackeray bats for Shah Rukh Khan
Mumbai: Actor Shah Rukh Khan, owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders or KKR, will not be cheering for his cricket team when it takes on the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium this evening.

That's because the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) said the five-year ban imposed on the actor last year - after he got into a scuffle with security guards - stays.

That's "childish," says Raj Thackeray, chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS. In a surprise move, the politician batted for the actor, and said, "Whatever happened last time happened. It's childish to hang on to it. Is he a terrorist, that you won't allow him to come back... and let him watch the match?"

The actor, meanwhile, said, "This is very awkward... I don't know what I'm supposed to do... Actually, I'm going to say something politically incorrect. If I do enter the stadium what will they do... shoot me?"

Shah Rukh Khan was banned from entering the famous stadium in Mumbai after he got into a brawl after an Indian Premier League or IPL match last May.

Earlier today, Maharashtra Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant urged MCA president Ravi Savant to reverse the ban on the actor since he had apologised publicly for the fracas. "It is not the question of Shah Rukh Khan as an actor, but of any citizen - a ban is not a democratic punishment, especially when the person has apologised," Mr Sawant wrote to the MCA chief.
