Jaipur:
The Tapovan Trust - an NGO in Sriganganagar in Rajasthan has managed to collect RS 51,000 from NDTV.com surfers, which they will now handover to a couple who was forced to sell their newborn baby boy for pay for treatment of their older son.
NDTV had reported how Sandhya and Ashok Kumar were arrested on August 9 for "selling" their eight-day-old child to their neighbour for R 40,000. They claimed they needed the money for their two-year-old paralytic son's treatment. Ironically the couple received just R 20,000. They were then arrested and released on bail by the anti-trafficking unit of the Rajasthan police.
Once their case was highlighted, the Tapovan Trust managed to collect Rs 51,000 from surfers of ndtv.com. They will now give the child's father a small rented shop with electrical equipment so he can run his business and support his family. The collector of Sriganganagar will be present when this is done.
