New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a second time, informing him about the conduct of Governor Kalraj Mishra. The Governor has rejected his call to start the assembly session for a second time. "Spoke to PM yesterday over Governor's conduct," Ashok Gehlot told reporters today.
The Supreme Court today allowed the Rajasthan Assembly Speaker to withdraw his appeal against the high court's order asking him to defer till July 24 the disqualification proceedings against sacked deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and 18 dissident Congress MLAs. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Speaker CP Joshi, told a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra that the Rajasthan High Court had passed a fresh order on July 24 and they were weighing the legal options. While withdrawing the plea, Kapil Sibal told the bench that the appeal had become infructuous as the top court did not stay the earlier high court order passed on July 21 asking the Speaker to defer disqualification proceedings.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot - struggling to keep his government afloat -- has sent a second proposal to Governor Kalraj Mishra for starting the assembly session. The proposed date is July 31 and the agenda cited is coronavirus. There is no word on floor test. Mr Gehlot maintains that some MLAs supporting him are being held hostage at the rebel camp in Gurugram and once they come to Jaipur, his numbers will rise further. The Governor, who turned down the earlier proposal pointing out that it did not mention a date or a reason for the assembly session, said he is examining it.
