Rajasthan to have world's largest solar project

New Delhi: Three central ministries on Wednesday joined hands to launch the world's largest 4,000 MW ultra-mega solar power project in Rajasthan, a statement said.

Six public sector undertakings (PSUs) of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Power signed a memorandum of understanding here to develop and operate the project in Sambhar area.

The PSUs are Bharat Heavy Industries Ltd, Power Grid Corporation of India, Sambhar Salt Ltd, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd, Rajasthan Electronics and Instrumentation Ltd and Solar Energy Corporation of India.

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd, a joint venture between the central and the Himachal Pradesh government, has already entered the field of wind energy with the development of 47.6 MW Khirvire project in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

"Twenty-five wind power turbines of the capacity of 850 KW each have already commenced power generation," an official said.
