The BJP High Command has reportedly asked former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje to step down as the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.
Raje has been under intense pressure since the BJP's rout in Rajasthan in the recent Lok Sabha elections when the party won just four of the 25 seats in the state.
Her critics in the state BJP, especially leaders from the RSS faction, have been demanding Raje's ouster as they blame her for the party's debacle. But Raje and her supporters are reportedly in no mood to quit.
But the political buzz in Jaipur suggests that MLAs supporting Raje are planning to go to Delhi to demonstrate their strength and lobby with the BJP High Command to retain Raje as the Leader of the Opposition in Rajasthan.
This move by Raje loyalists could well deepen the rift within the Rajasthan unit and is bound to be a major embarrassment for the BJP just ahead of its already controversial chintan baithak slated for next week.
