Chennai:
Nalini Sriharan, who has spent 20 years in prison for her role in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, is being moved to the Vellore Prison in Tamil Nadu.
Nalini was moved from there last year to a jail in Chennai after she complained prison officials at Vellore were harassing her.
Nalini is being shifted at her request so that she can spend some time with her husband, Murugan, who is at the Vellore prison. He is among the three convicts who were meant to be executed on September 9 for the murder of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. An appeal against the hanging is being considered by the Madras high court. Murugan and the others have said that the President of India took 11 years to reject their mercy petitions, which sought to change their punishment to life imprisonment.
Muruguan and Nalini were sentenced along with two other people to death by the Supreme Court in 1999. Nalini's sentence was commuted after an intervention by Mr Gandhi's wife, Sonia, who is the president of the Congress party. Mrs Gandhi stepped in after Nalini delivered a baby girl in jail.
