Chennai: The mother of Nalini Sriharan, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has pleaded the government to commute the death sentence and all the convicts.
"Nalini and others are stressed out in solitary confinement. Nalini wants to see her daughter. She is sad that her family is ruined," 60 Year-old Padma Sriharan told NDTV.
She also said that none of the convicts have committed any wrong and hoped that they will be released.
"We have suffered so much in the last 20 years. Nobody used to give us house on rent. We've lost many jobs. We've managed with our education and hard work," Padma added.
Nalini was sentenced to death in 1999 along with three other convicts - Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan. She is married to Murugan. After Nalini gave birth to a baby girl in jail, her death sentence was commuted to life following intervention by Sonia Gandhi, widow of the late former Prime Minister.
The Madras High Court had last year quashed all proceedings by a lower court in Vellore Ms Nalini for allegedly possessing a mobile phone in her cell inside the Vellore prison in April 2010.
