BJP president Rajnath Singh on Monday met party's new posterboy Varun Gandhi who is lodged in the Etah jail in Uttar Pradesh.
After the meeting Varun, Singh said that his party will not remain silent. He also said that politically and legally BJP is standing with him.
There was heavy security outside the jail and Varun has been kept in a separate jail due to reports of a threat to his life.
Rajnath Singh has blamed the BSP and Congress of harassing Varun and will discuss with him how the party plans to focus on the issue during its campaign in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi's hate speech and then the BJP's defence of the young leader has left some party's allies worried that it's going back to the Hindutva line.
Party president Rajnath Singh now seems to be trying to address those concerns without alienating the party's Hindu voter in turn making some cryptic comments on Mandir and Masjid while campaigning.
"You may go anywhere in the world, Ram was born here. Let Ram Mandir be built in Ayodhya, after that we will work towards building a mosque wherever you wish. We will get it done," said Rajnath Singh, president, BJP.
