Raju avoiding probe in Satyam scam, claims SEBI

Hyderabad: Regulatory authority SEBI has claimed that their investigations into the Rs 7000-crore Satyam scam are being hampered. Does it suggest that there is another political twist in the Raju tale?

Who can get to Raju first? The SEBI is hoping that they can, but it seems like that will happen only once they cross the legal hurdles. Obtaining a court order each time they want to question the Rajus, the SEBI claims, is hampering their investigations.

",We issued an order at 8.30 pm and he surrendered at 9 pm. So obviously he knew it would be difficult if he came in front of us and if he was questioned by SEBI,", said Pradyumna K Reddy, advocate for SEBI.

So if SEBI lawyers are to be believed, was there a planned strategy to escape interrogation? Sources say that Raju used his political connections to ensure that he is arrested before SEBI could interrogate him. And then despite having a provision of seeking bail once in judicial custody, his lawyers did not apply for bail.

Why haven't the police petitioned for custody like they usually do in such cases? And once Raju was sent to judicial custody, why didn't they seek for a bail on Monday? Is the Andhra Pradesh government hand in glove in keeping Raju away from both the police and other investigating authorities?

All these questions point towards a secret understanding to give ample time to Raju's lawyers to prepare his legal defence.
