Rajya Sabha polls: Rajasthan BJP 'locks up' its MLAs

Jaipur: BJP MLA's have checked into a five star hotel outside Jaipur. Till the Rajya Sabha elections on June 17, the BJP intends to keep its flock here.

Though the arithmetic now seems to be working in their favour with the CPM deciding to abstain, the party will need only 80 votes to win. With the support of the JDU their figures are adding up, but still the party's taking no chances.

"We always have done this in every election. We bring everybody together. It's a nice feeling of camaraderie and then you go and vote together," said Vasundhara Raje, senior BJP leader.

The MLA's bonded by sitting down together to watch Prakash Jha's latest release Rajneeti, but whether these tactics will work remains to be seen.

"Can you rely on barricading the MLAs? Somebody who wants to be a turncoat will be a turncoat, that's why I don't subscribe to this theory of locking away MLAs," said BJP MLA Devi Singh Bhati.

But clearly the stakes are high in this election, and the BJP will also use the next two days to train their MLAs on how to vote, to make doubly sure nothing goes wrong.
