Srinagar:
A man wanted for rape in Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested after he conned the police into flying him to Jammu in a helicopter often used for VVIPs, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
After he was accused of rape earlier this month, the man managed to escape to his hometown in Rajouri, 150 kilometres from Jammu.
When a major bus accident took place nearby, he decided to leverage the chaos. He rushed to the hospital where people injured in the accident were being treated.
He posed as one of them, collected the compensation of Rs 5,000 being offered to those hurt in the accident, and then flew to Jammu on the helicopter which had been summoned for ferrying victims to a hospital there.
The police says doctors are to blame for the embarrassing lapse because they had certified him as a victim of the bus accident.
The man had allegedly raped a girl in a jungle in Manja Kote in Rajouri district earlier this month.
